The Abbey Casket Difference reflects Benedictine values of simplicity, dignity, and care, brought to life through handcrafted construction and meaningful design details that offer comfort to those who are grieving.
- Inspired By Monastic Tradition Our Monastic Casket is modeled after the simple, dignified design in which the monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey are laid to rest. This distinctive style traces back to the monks of Einsiedeln Abbey, who brought the design with them when they founded Saint Meinrad Archabbey.
- Made From Locally Sourced Hardwoods Each casket and urn is handcrafted at Saint Meinrad from locally sourced hardwoods, in your choice of poplar (pictured above), cherry, walnut, and oak.
- Handcrafted Interior Details Every Abbey Casket interior is carefully upholstered by hand in our workshop. The Monastic Casket features a distinctive pleated interior and pillow, both handcrafted in the Tailor Shop at Saint Meinrad Archabbey. The Traditional Casket offers an adjustable innerspring frame and fully upholstered lining, finished by hand with the same care and attention to detail.
- A Removable Keepsake Every Abbey Casket and cremation urn includes a removable keepsake cross, offering families a lasting remembrance of their loved one. Each cross may be personalized with a gold or silver corpus or custom engraving. Additional keepsake crosses are also available.
- Solid Wood Reinforced Handles The Monastic Casket features six reinforced, solid wood handles designed for strength, stability, and ease of carrying.
- A Benedictine Promise Engraved on the foot of every Abbey Casket and urn is a line from The Rule of St. Benedict: “May He bring us all together to everlasting life.” This inscription reflects the heart of Benedictine life, and offers a prayerful hope that leads to an eternal union with God and loved ones.
